Mothers Day – Sunday 2nd March

February 27, 2008

I think Mothers’ Day has crept up on all of us this year but it is still a day we must celebrate …. and I’m not just saying that because I am a mum and do love to be spoiled occasionally! Life can take over so much sometimes that we forget to say the important things to those we love so this is a good day to remind ourselves that the little things mean such a lot.

Post that card now if you aren’t going to see your Mum on Sunday and pick up the phone and tell her how much you love her and appreciate all that she has done for you over the years – this will bring so much joy.

If you are spending Sunday with Mum and haven’t yet decided what to do or where to go then why not take her out for lunch in Hebden Bridge and don’t forget to call at Heart Gallery for a glass of Pink Fizz to celebrate. Also, if you see something on Sunday that you want to treat Mum to then quote “Mum’s The Word” when you come to pay for it and you will get 10% discount too.

Whatever you do this Sunday make sure that you enjoy your day and I hope to see you again soon.

Jo Whitehead’s Sushi Girls

February 21, 2008

Jo came to see me at the beginning of the week with a view to showcasing some of her functional glassware in the near future. I was so taken with these Sushi Girls she brought to show me that they are now on display in Heart Gallery ahead of schedule! I hope you like them too and at £20 each they make perfect pressies – something a little different for Mum perhaps? Jo has a few other pieces on display too and there will be a colourful range of fused glass jewellery from her very soon.Jo Whitehead ‘Sushi Girls’ dish £20

Jo Davies

February 15, 2008

Jo’s work is in part led by clay as a material and the processes around its production from wet clay to the final ceramic object. It is also a visual bringing together of contrasts – wriggling and still, wet and dry, sharp edges and blunt forms.

Each piece is the product of an evolution of visual details that Jo has been gathering and using for several years.  The recurring theme is in the reinvention of an elegant style that teeters on the edge of vulgarity; creating subverted Rococo forms that burst to create a light-hearted sensuality.

Rebecca H Joselyn

February 15, 2008

I first met Rebecca at Harrogate last year when she won the Newcomer Award as voted by The Craftsman Magazine for her innovative silversmithing and she truly deserved this accolade. Rebecca has now moved into jewellery and so I am really proud to be showcasing two of Rebecca’s current collections for the first time in this area. Slate, 9ct gold and silver are combined in one wearable collection and her other collection features cast silver people in various stances being made into earrings, brooches and cufflinks. I hope you enjoy Rebecca’s work and here is a little taster for you to whet your appetite although the pictures do not do her work justice: Rebecca H Joselyn   Rebecca H Joselyn  Rebecca H Joselyn

Jess Ball

February 15, 2008

Using thin slabs of white earthenware clay Jess cuts, manipulates and sticks shapes to form light, bright pieces that sparkle and glow. Bright colours, a crisp glaze and gold lustre enhance the reflective quality of her work. As each piece is formed it takes on its own character from the twinkling humble mug to the tall proud jug. Jess is a local ceramicist and Heart Gallery is proud to showcase this talented Yorkshire lass’s work. Prices from £18.

UTILITY WEAR FOR 0-6 YEAR OLDS

February 13, 2008

hank-and-dollys-logo.jpg

Hank was a man of constant sorrow.

He spent his days troubled by the mass production of low-grade yarn that lined the rails of his hometown. He yearned to cultivate a line of clothing for the sweet things in life. Clothing that was charming and wholesome, strong and admirable.

Then along came Dolly …. with a wiggle in her walk and a giggle in her talk. Together they bore the seeds of a blossoming brand.

Launched in 2006 by Matt Carroll, designer of album covers for The Happy Mondays, and Jill Boughey, Mum to Edie and Milo, Hank & Dolly is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Celebrity fans that adorn their offspring in Hank & Dollys include Liam Gallager & Nicole Appleton, Bobby Gillespie, Damien Hirst and John Squire.

Kerry Mosley

February 5, 2008

Having just taken delivery of some of Kerry’s amazing work she kindly sent me this link for you to follow. If you scroll down on this site from the top bar under THIS ISSUE you will find an image of Kerry’s which I now have framed in Heart Gallery and I must say that it is amazing. It was displayed for this last weekend and received a great deal if interest from my customers. What I love best about this portrait piece is its ability to change depending on the angle you view it from. Standing at my counter on Saturday, Paula and I commented that from the distance we were looking from you couldn’t tell that it was a stitched, textile piece but even so it was a haunting image which definately grabbed you and made you look twice. I will post an image of the framed piece in the near future but in the meantime please check it out from this link, thank you. http://www.ebony.co.uk/workbox If you like what you see you may wish to commission Kerry to do a piece for you from a photograph of your choice so do please get in touch with me at Heart Gallery to discuss this option, thank you.
