May has started off as a really cold month which has had me wanting to hibernate on an evening with a good cup of tea and some cake or chocolate … or both cake AND chocolate!!
This fab new teapot from Jan Constantine is HUGE so it has kept me topped up nicely …
This range, which arrived at Heart Gallery at the beginning of May, is quite extensive so to compliment the teapot we have mugs, bowls, milk jugs, plates, cake stands and egg cups.
May has also seen some colourful china arrive from the Pantone range we have been keen to introduce to you for quite some time. Jackie and Victoria formed a partnership in 2000 dedicated to innovative design and creative solutions. The W2 brand was established with the ethic that all products should have a purpose – that old adage ‘Form follows function’ is the W2 mantra.
We have got individual Pantone mugs in a great range of colours and also the Mini Mug sets and Espresso Sets which make great presents. I know this next image isn’t of ceramics but we have also introduced the fabulous Pantone A5 & A6 notebooks – with contrasting coloured lined paper – the notebook of designers inspired by the iconic colour chip.
Cakestands by Linda Bloomfield are perfect wedding presents or birthday treats for bakers. Form is Linda’s inspiration. Soft, simple forms with faint throwing lines and dimples impressed into the freshly thrown clay. Linda uses porcelain for its smoothness, whiteness and translucency. Glazes are tactile satin matt on the outside and fluid transparent on the inside, with colour sometimes hidden inside a form.
Linda sells at Liberty so Heart Gallery is really proud to showcase her tactile porcelain pieces.
We have had a top up of our ever popular porcelain hearts too by Clare Mahoney and one customer yesterday was ever so pleased as they wanted one to give as a birth present to her best friend who’d just brought a beautiful baby daughter into the world.
Clare also has pebbles in her lovely range
as well as some gorgeous coasters and tiles but I have to admit that there aren’t many of these left now.
I can’t give you a ceramic showcase without including Rowena Gilbert whose work is a favourite at Heart Gallery.
Searching for the perfect fusion of strong design, innovative style and spontaneous expression. The clay vessel is Rowena’s bold canvas; strong, simple and unfussy in form. Layers of clay echo periods of time, memories; slow, controlled, ordered. The surface evokes moods, tensions, actions, reactions.
Using additions of metal oxides for the reds, blacks and blues, the coloured clay layers are brushed on the slip cast vessel or inlaid in incised lines and marks. The surface marks are created using various sgraffito tools when the clay vessel is in a leather-hard state. Rowena bisque fires, then masks areas on the outside of the vessel using wax resist, glazing the inside and the unmasked areas with a transparent gloss with the final firing at 1160°C. All pieces are hand made and have Rowena’s signature mark on the base.
So, new work at Heart Gallery from new designers and top ups from some of our regulars. A great collection, perfect for gifts or treats, so we shall see you soon.
