After successfully exhibiting with Heart Gallery in the summer as part of our Yorkshire In All Its Glory Exhibition, Nigel has chosen Heart Gallery as his local outlet for his amazing photography of the Hebden Bridge area. We are really pleased about this and have created a beautiful space within the gallery for his limited edition framed prints to hang where the light is perfect and the ambience peaceful.
Nigel’s images are the results of many meanderings around the Hebden Bridge area.
Nigel is a full time freelance photographer covering a wide range of photography including portrait, editorial, fashion and commercial, however the Hebden images are a self driven project undertaken on downtime from his day job or as an escape from his `lightroom`..ie. computer.
Nigel loves the idea of heading out on a photographic trip with no preconceived ideas and then seeing what will unfold during the day (or night). Having been a photographer since he was a teenager, the technicalities of photography are etched into his being so the images are a result of intuition and feeling rather than f stops, shutter speed and the `rules` of composition.
Nigel has photographed in over 30 countries but is always drawn back to capture images on his home ground. In fact Nigel’s Hebden images have won more awards than all his other travel images put together. Awards include Shot Up North winner, Finalist in the Nikon International photo contest, Landscape Photographer of the year winner, Creativematch winner and finalist in LPA portrait awards.
The process of photographing the familiar can create a heightened awareness which sometimes translates into a magical image. Not always of course, Nigel often comes home having not even pressed the shutter but still feeling lucky to live in such a beautiful and intriguing place.
