Heart Gallery is Five!

Heart Gallery has been open for five years!

This little post about our birthday celebrations is really late so I must apologise for that … it’s all to do with  the ‘time’ thing and how it can play tricks on you! I actually can’t believe it is five years since I first opened the amazing doors of Heart Gallery to you all; it really doesn’t seem that long! In the same respect I thought our party to celebrate five years in business was only last week…..it wasn’t!

Beautiful packages from Lisa Murdoch

Lots of thought and careful planning goes into an exhibition at Heart Gallery and the Birthday one was such a celebration of achievement it had to be right so the contents of these little packages from Lisa were just perfect. Lisa cut, snipped, stitched and styled the bunting then delivered it wrapped like a birthday present and I was over the moon with it.

The weather the week of our party wasn’t that great and the theme for FIVE AND FABULOUS was a Garden Party! However, we kept our spirits up with positive thoughts and were blessed with a dry afternoon and evening in the end so we were all happy bunnies….the Makepiece models for the fashion show were happy little sheep!

We celebrated with pink fizz, cake pops, frozen yogurt and the perfect music provided by two members of professional local string quartet Ariana.

We all had a jolly good time at Five And Fabulous Exhibition and after 5 hours on my feet it was time to call it a night and head off home.

Meet The Maker – Katie Heeks

Katie Heeks - Designer/Maker

Katie is a designer/maker who specialises in laser cutting, using it to produce lighting, 3D pictures and other objects to value and cherish. She is inspired by the decorative forms in nature and hand sketches drawings of flowers and similar imagery into beautiful silhouettes.

The primary material Katie uses is mostly sustainably sourced birch plywood, which she then laminates with vintage textiles to add pattern and colour. Katie then laser cuts the beautiful silhouettes to create her Gardens of Delight!

The idea behind Katie’s work is that it is a little world dedicated to people’s interests and passions, whether its animals, music or even gardening, almost anything can be incorporated into these magical worlds.

The level of detail ensures constant surprises and delight, you never know what you might find in the undergrowth!

Heart Gallery was so blown away by Katie’s work when we first saw it; we absolutely love her Gardens of Delight and know you will too. We currently have four on sale and chose her image for our Garden Party invitation to celebrate being 5 year’s old this month.
