Textile sculptures and the capabilities of fabric structures became Clare’s main interest whilst studying a BA(hons) fashion and textiles course at Liverpool John Moores University.
Using the same simple stitch techniques she creates sculptural textile accessories through the repetition of pleats and tucks.
Creating movement and giving structure to plain coloured cloths that dictate their own shape and form. The finest hand woven silk is machine stitched to enhance shadow and texture within the fabric.
These luxurious accessories are reminiscent of antique bodices, crinolines and corsetry. At the same time as being nostalgic the designs are exciting and contemporary with every piece created to be functional and beautiful.
Clare currently designs and makes a range of handbags, scarves, wraps and ties and has undertaken numerous commissions including interior furnishings.
Clare has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and was selected by Leeds international relations team to attend St James Court Art Fair in Louisville, USA. She has recently created a collection of exclusive accessories for the National Gallery, London to accompany the Jan Gossaert exhibition. The British Museum stocks her latest laser cut silk scarves in their Grenville room.
Clare’s scarves and bags are perfect pieces for the Bride or Groom’s mum to compliment their outfit on such a special day and the ties can be chosen for the Groom, Best Man and Ushers/Groomsmen to compliment a Bride’s colour scheme. Please call in to ask about this service, thank you.
