Charlotte graduated from Coventry University in 2008 with a BA Hons Degree in Surface Decoration. Charlotte used her time at Coventry to to explore and specialise in ceramics.
Having always been attracted to natural surroundings and organic surfaces, Charlotte is drawn to the textures within the world around us. Her work explores the landscape and the detail of many different natural surfaces.
Whilst concealed amongst these surroundings, Charlotte feels relaxed and at home. She finds it amazing to see the changes in rocks and coves caused by weathering and erosion from the sea.
Charlotte loves the bumpy and colourful linear patterns found within fields and hills, and the surfaces in nature where no two marks are ever the same – it is this particular aspect that her ceramics connect to.
Before constructing the ceramic forms, Charlotte produces mixed-media drawings and prints, which inform the surfaces of the clay.
Charlotte’s interest and passion for ceramics is growing rapidly the more she experiences new ideas, and for every piece of work that she finishes.
Charlotte is fascinated by the qualities of the material and likes to keep her work full of excitement. She relishes in constructing an object using her hands to thoroughly engage with what she is making.
Each piece of Charlotte’s work is hand built and glazed with love using locally sourced materials. Charlotte’s pieces are then fired in an electric kiln up to 1260°C and can be used for interior and exterior display or function.
