Husband and wife team, Stewart and Jacqueline are the duo behind a new range for Heart Gallery. The pair produce a range of laser cut artwork/homewares taking inspiration from the nature that surrounds them in the Peak District.
The driving ethos of their business has always been to create unique and beautiful items for themselves, their family and friends, hence the business name; For Me & For You.
Stewart and Jacqueline mostly work in a sustainable Pangua Poplar wood. Grown in Panguaneta, Poplar is a fantastic wood as it combines rapid growth with great consistency. Because poplar is a light, softwood it works amazingly well with the range of wood stains they use.
Stewart and Jacqueline were fortunate enough to get to know Les Littlefair, a wood stain producer from the Lake District. Les produces a wide range of organic, water based wood stains. These provide an amazingly rich colour variation and don’t harm the environment.
For their painted scenes they use Little Greene paints which produce excellent results without the need for multiple coats, something that is essential when you have scenes that are so intricate and delicate.
Pieces can be personalised as well … for example this tree can have names and dates laser cut into the branches for which we can quote.
All the scenes Stewart and Jacqueline produce are laser cut at their workshop in Macclesfield. The designs themselves are mostly produced from photographs they have taken. For example, the Rose scene was taken from a photo Stewart took on his phone in his mum’s garden.
The Sweet Cicely is a section of a cutting his mum had for her study to become a Medical Herbalist and the tree which features a lot in their work was taken as they both came back from holiday in Wales a few years ago.
All the photos were captured in silhouette, or with a very clear contrast. With such a clean image they can produce the outline that the laser cutter works from. This means that they can produce high quality bespoke work from customers photos, so if anyone is interested please talk to us and we can discuss this process further with you.
We are delighted to be showcasing Stewart and Jacqueline’s high quality wall pieces as part of our Summer 2015 Exhibition The Way Through The Woods.
