Sara was born in Uganda in the early 70s and moved to the U.K when she was 9, eventually settling in Bradford.

Sara discovered the joy of making jewellery in her late twenties, enrolling in evening classes at Bradford College. In 2009 she completed a Foundation Degree in Art and Design Enterprise, which taught her more about the business side of running a jewellery business.

Sara’s work is mainly in sterling silver. She loves the versatility of it, how such a strong unyielding material can be manipulated in so many ways into so many different forms.

Sara often oxidises parts of her work for contrast and adds texture using various hammer strokes. She likes to use small touches of gold and gold plating here and there for interest.

Sara’s Buttercup range is based on simple naive flowers. These are delicate and understated, and have the hammered finish and gold-plated touches she enjoy applying.

Her childhood plays a major part in the design of these flowers; they are reminiscent of daisy and buttercup chains she used to make as a child, one of her earliest memories. Although they appear fragile, they are in fact quite robust.

Sara’s Leaf range came about when a friend asked her to design a piece of jewellery to celebrate a career move. Leaves symbolise new beginnings and growth so a new range was born.

This became a new beginning for Sara – as the Buttercups represented nostalgia in the form of her childhood, so the Leaf range signified a new beginning and a new future.

Heart Gallery is showcasing both Sara’s Buttercup range and Leaf range as part of our Summer 2015 Exhibition ‘The Way Through The Woods’ which runs until 13th September.

  1. Hi Sara
I gave my wife a silver ring with two birch leaves on it some 23 years ago and wanted to replace it as it is long since gone missing. Your single birch leaf ring looks beautiful and very similar. How much would one in silver cost and where can I see one? We are in Devon.

    many thanks

    Julian

Not sure that I received the email.

Please could I ask you send it again?

        Many thanks.

        Julian
