Shelley and John are husband and wife team from Kent who met at Art college and gained degrees in Graphic Design from De Montfort University.
Shelley has been a professional Book Binder for 10 years and John a Design and Technology teacher for 8. Together they design and make a range of unique and quirky acrylic jewellery influenced by fairy tales, stories and books alongside a range of handmade gorgeous books, photo albums and lasercut cards.
Shelley has worked for many prestigious clients in her time at London bindery Delta Design which is owned and run by Cathy Robert. Whilst at the bindery Shelley mainly worked on bespoke photographers portfolios, handmade menus, boxes and books as well as being the leather worker. But after almost 10 years of working in London she tired of the daily commute and longed to create her own range of unique pretty books.
Like many creative journeys Shelley started out selling her books at small local craft events to test the market and see if the public would like them.
This continued until John became the head of Design and Technology and gained access to a laser cutter which allowed him to make Shelley a cat ring which she loved. From this small gift of Johns to a full range of jewellery, it’s surprising where those small beginnings end up.
Their jewellery is designed in a way that tells a story by using three items in symbol form. for instance The Owl And The Pussycat is represented with an owl, a cat and a pea green boat!
This range of acrylic jewellery is with us for our Summer 2015 Exhibition THE WAY THROUGH THE WOODS and we love it – we think you’ll love it too x
